My North Dakota Diary
Benson County
'Benson County was named in perpetuation of the name of B. W. Benson, a member of the territorial
legislature in 1883, the year in which the county was organized by an act of the same. It was formed
out of parts of Ramsey and De Smet counties. The boundaries were changed in 1885, and later in 1887.
It is of irregular shape owing to the shore line of Devils Lake on the east. Minnewauken is the county
seat.' Source: North Dakota Blue Book -- 1942
