Burke County
'Burke County was carved out of the northwestern townships of Ward County, was formally recognized
and organized July 6, 1910, by a gubernatorial proclamation, and named in honor of Governor John
Burke. It is rich in agricultural resources, livestock and minerals. Bowbells is the county seat.' Source:
