Cavalier County
'Cavalier County was named in honor of the memory of Charles Cavalier, who was believed to have
been the first white settler to take up a permanent residence in North Dakota. He settled in Pembina
county in 1851, and lived in the Red River Valley for about fifty years. The county is generally a rolling
prairie, well watered and drained by creeks, coulees and ravines. Langdon is the county seat.' Source:
