My North Dakota Diary
Grand Forks County
'Grand Forks County was named because of the junction of Red Lake and Red River, at the city of Grand
Forks, from which the county took its name, and which is the county seat; situated in the richest part of
the famous Red River Valley, the county occupies a foremost position among the wheat producing
counties of the state. The city of Grand Forks is a railroad center, and wholesale distributing point for
the northern half of the state. It is a modern city with the University of North Dakota, and the state mill
and elevator being located here.' Source: North Dakota Blue Book -- 1942
