Griggs County
'Griggs County was named in honor of Captain Alexander Griggs, found of Grand Forks, and one of the
first navigators of the Red River of the North. It was formed from part of Traill and Foster counties,
February, 1881. The county seat was located at Hope first, but moved in November of the same year to
Cooperstown. The principal crop raised is wheat.' Source: North Dakota Blue Book -- 1942
