McKenzie County
'McKenzie County was named for the Hon. Alexander McKenzie, who was identified with the interests of North Dakota, particularly the development of the Missouri Slope and western counties. This county is well watered by the Missouri river, the government irrigation projects are in the northwestern part at Fort Buford, Trenton and Williston. Lignite coal is found in abundance all over the county and timber is plentiful along the rivers and creeks. The county seat is Watford City.' Source: North Dakota Blue Book -- 1942
