My North Dakota Diary
McLean County
'McLean County was named for the Hon. John A. McLean, who was prominent in the development of the
western country. McLean county is one of the oldest counties, but its real development did not
commence until about 1900, when the first railroad was built through its territory. Washburn on the
Missouri river is the county seat.' Source: North Dakota Blue Book -- 1942
