Towner County
'Towner County was named in honor of the Hon. O. M. Towner, founder of the Elk Valley farm in Grand
Forks county, and a member of the territorial legislature in 1883. It lies in the northern tier of
counties, the land being rolling prairie, plentifully watered by lakes and streams. The county is
splendidly supplied with railroad facilities, the Great Northern and Soo lines crossing it, so that no part
of the county is more than six miles from a shipping point. Cando is the county seat.' Source: North Dakota
